Natives Only is the story of those of US that have been told that our communities no longer belong to US. It is the story of our area codes the 213 and the 415 and all that they have tried to do to us so that we forget we are Natives to our soil, to our communities, to our ideologies.
Natives Only is the story of those of US that can no longer afford to stay in our homes because the rents we can no longer pay. Is is the story of our area codes the 415 and 213 and our Legacy.
Natives Only is the story of those of US that have been told that we are no longer the story. We are no longer the story of Boyle Heights. We are no longer the story of the Mission District in San Francisco. Let them tell it, and they say we are not the 213 or the 415. Let US tell it and we remind you that Natives Only are the fire of the soil.
Natives Only is the story of those of US that have been told we are no longer the Heart or the Beat that make Boyle Heights and the Mission District come alive. The idea that we no longer are the community is ridiculous. Our spirit never left and never dies. We might have left to go to college to enhance our stories. We might have left to get additional training to enhance our legacies. We might have left to see the world, explore and share our legacy with others. Yet, we still continue to be Natives Only.
Boyle Heights would not be what she is today if not for the legacy of La Ruby and Don Jose who created legacy on Brooklyn Avenue via Ruby’s Bridal Boutique. The Mission District would not be what is today if not for the legacy of Maria Romero and Luis Galvez.
Natives Only is the story of the soul and spirit of ancestry lived and ancestry continued.
